Using E-mail

This manual describes using e-mail (

We send out important e-mails, so please make sure you are able to read them. We do not mind if you configure your HGC e-mails to be forwarded to a different e-mail address.

  • If you didn't want to use HGC e-mail address in your application, we configure your HGC e-mails to be forwarded to the e-mail address that was written in your application form. If your e-mail address changes, please contact to Supercomputing secretariat.

Operational Procedure Upon Finding a Virus in a Received E-mail's Attachment Elimination of the virus and sending of the e-mail to the recipient if possible. If it cannot be eliminated, the attachment will be deleted and a warning message sent to the intended recipient
Spam Mail CountermeasuresAutomatic tagging of [SPAM] in the Subject line should an e-mail be detected as spam
SMTP Permission RangeInternet, SMTP-AUTH is needed
  • The number of mails sent depends on the number of recipients. If you send 1 e-mail to 300 recipients, it will be 5 minutes after you've sent the e-mail before you can send another.
  • If a virus is able to be taken from an infected attachment, it will be extinguished. If it cannot be removed, the attachment itself will be deleted.

Login to User Support Page

Use your browser to access User Support Page. Enter in your e-mail address and password and click the "Login" button.

Changing Your Password

After you've logged in to User Support Page click on "Service Management". mail_smx_02

Click on "Change email password". mail_smx_03

Enter in the password you would like to change your e-mail password to and click "Change". mail_smx_04

Forwarding E-mail

After you've logged in to User Support Page click on "Service Management". mail_smx_02

Then, click on "Mail forward setting". mail_smx_05

Enter in the e-mail address that you wish to forward incoming mail to, and click "Setting". mail_smx_06

Login to Web Mail

Use your browser to access Web Mail (Active! mail). Enter in your User ID (E-mail Address) and Password, and then click "Login". webmail_smx_01

Login to Spam Filter Control Console

Spam Filter Control Console account is independent of E-mail account. When your e-mail address receive over three mails from the e-mail addresses, it will be generated automatically.

Use your browser to access Spam Filter Control Console.
First time only, you need to set password and security question.

Click on "Forgot your password or need to create a password?". filter_smx_01

Enter in your e-mail address and click on the "Next" button. filter_smx_02

An e-mail titled "Spam Filter Control Console Login Information" will be sent to the input e-mail address. If the account does not exist, the e-mail will not be sent. filter_smx_03

Click on the URL. filter_smx_04

Enter your password and click on the "Login" button. filter_smx_05

Enter your security question and answer (English answer is also OK). Click on the "OK" button. filter_smx_06

Click on "Preferences". filter_smx_07

If you change the language from Japanese to English, select "English" and click on "Apply". filter_smx_08

Quarantining Spam

"[SPAM]" tag is added in the subject of e-mails likely spam as default.

If you quarantine e-mails likely spam, do the following settings. You can receive the spam report.

After you've logged in to Spam Filter Control Console click on "Preferences". filter_smx_09

Check off "Use policy defaults" and select "Quarantine the message" on "High Spam Action". Then click on "Apply". filter_smx_10
